Egg yolks are full of cholesterol but they have the essential nutrients needed for the body to become healthy. Egg yolks contain most of the nutrients specifically fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids. When you eat egg yolks, you can also get higher content of calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamine, B6, folate, B12, copper, manganese and selenium.

Egg Whites
Egg whites are low in calories and packed with high-quality protein. They contain no fat or cholesterol, making them a popular choice for people focusing on weight loss, muscle building, or heart-friendly diets. If you're counting calories or looking for lean protein, whites are a great pick.
Egg Yolks
The yolk is often misunderstood—it’s actually the nutrient powerhouse of the egg. Yolks contain healthy fats, essential vitamins (A, D, E, K, B12), folate, choline, and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, which support eye and brain health. While they do contain cholesterol, current research shows that moderate yolk consumption is safe for most people.
The Bottom Line
Skip the debate—both parts have value. If you want pure protein, go for the whites. If you’re after full nutrition, don’t skip the yolk. For most people, eating whole eggs in moderation offers the best balance of benefits.
