In my loft office, blackout thermal blinds made a massive difference. They block the brutal summer sun hitting the skylights directly, keeping it surprisingly livable without AC. For winter, layered solutions or secondary glazing help trap the warmth. The biggest mistake I made initially was using cheap, thin blinds—they did nothing for the heat. Invest in proper solar-reflective thermal blinds; they pay for themselves in comfort.

External shading made a bigger difference than I expected. Blocking the sun before it reaches the glass is much more effective than cooling the room afterward.
